Penguard HB a high build fast drying Epoxy Primer for Multiple surfaces including Metals and Plastics. Suitable for use underwater as a Marine Primer. Free Delivery.

Penguard HB is a high build two pack epoxy primer which can be applied to multiple surfaces including steel, aluminium, concrete, GRP and building plastics. It can be used in exposed or immersed conditions.

Ideal as a primer on boats, marine infrastructure, GRP building products, residential, commercial and industrial products. It may be applied direct to galvanized steel.

Penguard HB is a high build epoxy, up to 150 microns may be applied in a single coat by airless spray. It is as high molecular weight epoxy exhibiting excellent durability, water and corrosion resistance. It is certified for use with potable water and certified not to spread surface flames.

Suitable as a primer on multiple surfaces as part of a multicoat system for aggressive C5-M Marine and Heavy Industrial environments. It can be overcoated with Hardtop Polyurethanes in exposed environments for long term colour and protection.

Below the waterline on marine applications it can be overcoated with Vinyguard Silvergrey 88 and Seaforce antifoulings. It is available from stock in a white, grey and red matt finish for free next day delivery.


Penguard HB is a two pack, high build, high molecular weight epoxy primer suitable for multisurfaces. It can be applied by Airless spray, Conventional spray or brush.

Depending on the substrate temperature will depend on how fast the coating will dry, the fastest this product can dry is at a temperature of 40 °C which will make the coating touch dry within 1 hour, walk-on-dry within 3.5 hours, dry to overcoat in 3.5 hours and dried/cured for service in 3 days. Penguard HB Primer may be used in tanks for potable water. It is certified not to spread surface flames and may be used as a primer in an Intumescent paint system. It is resistant to continuous temperatures of up to 120°C.

This is a two pack epoxy matt suitable for use in atmospheric and immersed environments as a primer or intermediate coat in a multicoat system. It can be applied direct to carbon steel, stainless steel, galvanised steel, aluminium, zinc metal spray, GRP, concrete and shop primed steel.

Penguard HB Primer is recommended for offshore environments, marine hulls and topside, superstructures, containers, structural steel, building products, construction and agricultural equipment. It can be applied up to 150 microns in a single coat by airless spray, two coats may be required to achieve the recommended DFT by brush.

Surface Preparation

Carbon Steel: Minimum Sa 2.5 (ISO 8501-1)

Galvanised steel: Surface to be clean and dry with a rough dull surface

Aluminium, Stainless: Surface to be clean and dry, abrade with non metallic abrasives or pads

Painted surfaces: Surface to be clean, dry and undamaged compatible coating, free from oil grease and other contaminants.
