Little Greene French Grey Inspiring Colour Combinations

Grey is the only shade with no direct psychological properties, yet it remains one of the most popular colour choices in the UK. It is at the core of historical décor and remains a timeless signature for contemporary interior design. These subtle Little Greene Grey tones can be seen on the walls of fine stately homes, town houses and historic buildings across Europe.

Since 2018 in collaboration with their curators and conservators, an extensive paint research project has been undertaken in National Trust houses and gardens to find original colours and to tell the stories of the people who first enjoyed them. You can read more on the Greatest National Trust Houses here.

Little Greene French Grey (113) is the Emperor of Greys, an authentic Victorian colour containing a blend of different natural pigments. Our collection of beautiful Little Greene Grey colours softly transitions through tonal variations - from the palest almost white tones like Little Greene Loft White (222) through to warm tone Arquerite (250) and Dark Lead Colour (118).

French Grey roomBrown tones and blue-black hues like Basalt (221) and Little Greene Scree (227). This carefully selected palette of graduated Little Greene Greys is formulated on four naturally occurring pigments: Verdigris, Raw Umber, Iron Oxide and Red Oxide.

Little Greene French Grey is one of the most popular paint colours in the range. A classic, timeless and extremely versatile shade, Little Greene French Grey is equally valuable in the traditional home and the modern interior. Ideal for calm living spaces, hallways, bathrooms and bedrooms. Also, a great neutral colour to use in floor paint on wooden or concrete floors, or as a backdrop to brighter highlight colours such as Marigold (209), Mister David (47) and Green Verditer (92).

Little Greene Loft white is the palest of the grey tones almost white with a reflectance value of 92. It is best to use Loft White as an alternative to trade paint brilliant whites which aggravate the eye. Loft White can be used in modern environments or period house and cottages like the refurbishment at Tythe House.

Loft White can be classically paired with Tracery II (78), Urbane Grey (225) or Trumpet (196).

Little Greene Scree is at the blue-black end of the grey colour spectrum and absorbs light with a reflectance value of 17. It's a bold colour often used on an accent or feature wall. It pairs beautifully with Shallows (223), Bone China Blue (107) or Light Peachblossom (3).

French Grey Combination with Wallpapers

Reverie Nile One of the easiest ways of pairing your chosen colour with wallpaper is to use complementary shades or colours from the same part of the colour wheel, this creates a more cohesive and well-matched appearance in your living areas.

For a colour like French Grey, pairing it with wallpaper such as Belton Scenic Pavilion will create a room that feels modern and clean whereas pairing it with a darker wallpaper like Reverie Nile will evoke a richer and more emotional reaction.

Also, these combinations can also be paired with a lot of other colours like Loft White and Serpentine (233) to create a really cohesive look, this is due to the pairing of the wallpaper and paint being a very versatile combination.
