Monoguard Anticorrosion Primer Finish for Metal Structures

Monoguard has excellent colour retention and corrosion resistance for metal cladding, structural steelwork and steel equipment without the need for abrasive blast cleaning. It is non flammable, suitable for interior and exterior use and has low odour so can be applied safely during normal operations or in hygiene sensitive hospitals, schools and public buildings. Monoguard is an ideal high performance system for steel where abrasive blast cleaning is not practical or economically viable, an alternative to a three coat zinc rich primer, high build epoxy and polyurethane system. Applied to a dry film thickness over 260 microns it is recommended for highly corrosive C5-M coastal and heavy industrial environments. It is fast drying, touch dry in an hour and overcoated in two hours. Up to three coats can be applied in a single day enabling high productivity for steel fabricators and reduced site costs when maintaining existing facilities. Monoguard is environmentally compliant with low VOCs and low odour. It can be applied by Airless spray, brush or roller on steel, CorTen steel, cast iron, aluminium, stainless and galvanised steel. A single coat is recommended over weathered galvanised steel and previously painted surfaces. Available in an extensive range of RAL and NCS colours in a semigloss finish.

Surface Preparation

The surface to be coated must be clean, degreased, and free of surface contamination.

High pressure water blasting is recommended to remove surface contaminants, loosely adhering paint and rust.

Eco Powerclean a powerful biodegradable alkaline concentrate composed of anti flash rust additives for cleaning and preparing surfaces is recommended before painting. When high pressure water blasting up to 5% Eco Powerclean can be added to clean water to improve degreasing and temporarily protect the surface from flash rusting. After application the surface should be left for 2 to 3 minutes for it to react with the metal. It will significantly improve the corrosion protection on exposed metal surfaces and reduce cleaning times. At 5% dilution usage is 100m2 per litre.

Allow to dry before applying two coats of Monoguard. Cleaning by mechanical or power tools is advised when more detailed surface preparation needs to be done, such as chimneys, access ladders and bolts that could be heavily rusted.

Monoguard can be applied by brush on specific localised areas and by airless spray on the main surface. If spraying is not practical, Monoguard can be applied by roller although you will need to apply more coats to achieve the minimum thickness required.

Heavily corroded areas can be primed with Elastometal

Monoguard is an ideal high performance system for steel where abrasive blast cleaning is not practical or economically viable. It is an alternative to a three coat zinc rich primer, high build epoxy and polyurethane system. Applied to a dry film thickness over 200 microns it is recommended for highly corrosive C5-M Marine and C4 Industrial environments. Recommended for bridge painting and maintenance in petrochemical and gas facilities, was specified as a high performance system for the maintenance of the 8km Oresund Bridge linking Denmark to Sweden.

Monoguard is fast drying, touch dry in an hour and overcoatable in two hours. Up to three coats can be applied in a single day enabling high productivity for steel fabricators and reduced site costs when maintaining existing facilities. It is environmentally compliant with low VOCs and low odour, ideal for hygiene sensitive locations such as hospitals, schools and public buildings. It can be applied alongside normal business operations with the minimum disruption.

It can be applied by Airless spray, brush or roller on steel, CorTen steel, cast iron, aluminium, stainless and galvanised steel. A single coat is recommended over weathered galvanised steel and previously painted surfaces. Two coats are recommended for long term corrosion protection on steel in C5M environments (1400hrs salt spray ASTM). It can be applied up to 100 microns in a single coat by airless spray, two coats may be required to achieve the recommended DFT by brush or roller. It is resistant to continuous temperatures of up to 80°C

Monoguard  is recommended for offshore environments, tankfarms, petrochemical and chemical facilities, structural steel, metal cladding in coastal locations and  construction equipment. It is available in an extensive range of RAL Classic and NCS colours in a semigloss finish (70%) for free  delivery throughout the UK in 5lt and 20lt packs. Where a matt exterior grade finish is required it can be overcoated with Hydrograff HP two pack polyurethane finish. On rusty steel Elastometal may be used as a primer followed by one coat of Monoguard.
